Heavy Metal Rumors
Billie Joe Armstrong is dead! Vince Neil has AIDS! Gene Simmons is gay! These might seem shocking and surprising, maybe even unbelievable. There's a reason for that, none of it is true. But all of those rumors have gone around the Internet. In fact the rumor about Billie Joe from Greenday spread do fast that mainstream media was reporting it. Greenday actually had to release a statement to prove to people that Billie was still alive and well.
What amazes me and the reason I am writing this blog is the fact that if we started rumors like this about our neighbors we would go to jail for slander or libel. But since these people are celebrities its supposed to roll right off their backs. News flash people Heavy Metal Artists are people. They have families and people they work with that care about them. Can you imagine listening to the radio and hearing that your dad is dead or has been diagnosed with AIDS? It would be unthinkable, but this is what the families of celebrities put up with everyday.
I read a lot of music blogs as that's the business were in, but I always stop and wonder what connections these guys have to report some of the personal things they put up. Unless it says exclusive interview I don't believe a word of it. Even then things can be taken out of context.
Concert rumors are one thing and even bands breaking up might be touchable, but reporting information about someone personally that could potentially damage their family is way off limits. If you're a blog writer and your reading this please know that posting untrue rumors just to climb Google ranks isn't worth it. Not only is your credibility going to be shot in the blog world, but you could be doing some harm that takes many years to be undone.
